The new Liftmaster that replaced my original…was using the new Security+ 2.0 GDO protocol…so I purchased the HOMELINK repeater and that solved the issue. My 99 e39 540iT & 06 e53 X5 had no issues with that original GDO…not until it needed replacement in 2012. They also had a 1997 e38 and they could not program it to their GDO. My sister & brother-in-law built there home around the same time…but their GDO was the new rolling code type. When I purchased my 1st BMW that had a HOMELINK (my 1997 e38)…I had no problem programming it to my GDO. HomeLink is the world’s most widely trusted and used vehicle-based wireless control system. It took 2 seconds from button push to the activation of the door. This was around the exact distance from which I could see the garage door and then push the car transmitter button. When I checked the reception from the car, I found the signal was just about as good as the original signal from the car (with just a short delay for the relay.) The best distance I could get was around 200 feet. This allowed the wire to be at the very front of the garage door and in the best position to receive the signal from the car. I placed the receiver at the garage door (just above the door), and hung the wire straight down the front (top) of the door. A quick addition of an extension wire was all I needed to complete the best connection possible. I had the same issue syncing the Homelink buttons in my 2012 Vantage with new Liftmaster garage openers. The only issue I found was the antenna wire being too short. Knowing ahead of time that I had to place the receiver as close to the garage door (and not the motor) was very helpful. I did review the product prior to purchase, and took the advice of the people who found the major issues before I had to. I was happy to get the product at a great price.
